MoSt - Virtual exploration of a mobile station

By translating a real space into a virtual model, possible potentials and risks of new mobile stations can be investigated. This example shows the trainstation of Leverkusen-Opladen. With the help of a product catalog, infrastructural 3D objects can be placed and changed in the virtual environment. The main focus here is on the accessibility and the quality of stay of the mobile stations, which can be created and simulated using objects such as seatings, traffic signs, parking spaces, etc.

The application includes a planning and pedestrian mode as a design and evaluation tool. The evaluation can therefore be used by both experts and users. In order to further expand the group of users, it is possible to run the application on different end devices, so that a VR HMD is not necessary. For example, it is possible to cooperatively design and experience the virtual environment with a mouse and keyboard on the screen as well as in VR. The planning mode allows the user to place and align 3D objects in the virtual space. The Pedestrian mode, on the other hand, serves more as an evaluation and experience tool. Here, the already designed environment can be perceived and evaluated on the screen or in VR. By changing the time of day (day/night), different lighting scenarios can be simulated and spaces of potential fear can be recognized at an early stage.
